Fried chicken recipe

 The perfect fried chicken! The skin is deliciously crisp, the meat juicy and flavorful. And when you fry it at home, you know exactly what goes into your fried chicken.

Serves: 4 servings
Ingredients
  • 8 bone-in chicken pieces (drumsticks and thighs), skin on
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 quarts refined coconut oil, avocado oil, or light olive oil
Instructions
  1. Place the chicken pieces in a ziploc bag. Add the buttermilk. Place in the fridge to marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. While the oil is heating, place the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and oregano in a large ziploc bag. Shake to mix.
  4. Remove the chicken pieces one by one from the buttermilk and place them in the flour mixture, shaking to coat.
  5. Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil. Fry for 5 minutes, then lower heat to medium and continue to fry 10 more minutes, until browned. Turn and cook 10 more minutes, until browned on the other side. Place on paper towels to drain.
